JOLLEY, SR., Joe H. Age 82 of Goodlettsville. January 30, 2010. Joe is survived by many family members and friends. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After service he worked at the Tennessean where he retired. He was the proud owner of the Country and Western Bar & Grill in Goodlettsville. A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Forest Lawn Chapel. TANKSLEY, SR. Roy L. Of Madison, TN, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the age of 78.
Mr. Tanksley was the co-owner and President of Tanksley Transfer Co. for forty-two years. A member of Rivergate Church of Christ, he is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty-five years, Dixie Rice Tanksley; daughter, Margaret Rose Tanksley-Bond; sons, Roy L., Jr. and Andrew C. Tanksley; sister, Jane (Chris) Christiansen; brother, Gordon M. (Peggy) Tanksley and the entire Rice family who loved him as their own. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 12 Noon to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral services Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 12 Noon with Dr. Sellers Crain officiating. FLEMING, George Age 85 of Bon Aqua, TN.
Our wonderful DAD passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 after a severe fall in his home during a power outage. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, whose ship, the DD364 USS Mahan, was sunk on December 7, 1944 by a kamikaze. He attended his Naval reunions just about every year including last fall. He retired from the Ford Motor Company Glass Plant in Nashville. He was always an independent soul and during all his years, we never once had to take care of him, and he never asked for anything. He is survived by three children, oldest son, Robert; middle daughter, Carol; and youngest son, Lynn. He had 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Harold. Daisy, his wife of 49 years preceded him in death. Visitation will be Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 10 a.m. til 8 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, 3620 Nolensville Road. SUMMERS, Dorothy G. Age 71 of Hendersonville, TN, passed away January 4, 2010 in Madison, TN.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hendersonville, and is survived by her brother, Jim Summers and his wife, Janie of Hendersonville, TN, as well as several cousins. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery and visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m., at Spring Hill. SHADOWENS, Ruby G. Of Nashville, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009; she was 88. Preceded in death by her husband, Joe Andrew Shadowens. Survived by her sons, John (Edna) Shadowens, Robert Shadowens and Lawrence (Sandra) Shadowens; brother, Charles Douglas; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
