Sticky: Obituary: John R. Bratten, Jr.

BRATTEN, John Robert, Jr(CHS Class of ’71)- age 58 of Nashville, TN. John Bratten, retired partner/owner of Buena Vista Funeral Home and past master of BVEN Lodge 560 died John Bratten, Jr.Monday, Sept. 19, 2011. He spent his adult life serving and caring for grieving families and felt it was his ministry. His loves in life were his God, his family, his funeral home, and his Masonic Lodge. He is survived by wife, Sandra; son Jason (Mandy Lee); daughter Lauren (Nick); step-daughter, Christina; brothers Steve (Sue) and David (Ruth) ; and 4 step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Joyce Bratten; grandparents and nephew, Scotty. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 11-8PM and on Thursday from 10 till time of service; Masonic Service will be Wednesday at 7PM; Funeral Service will be Thursday, Sept. 22 at 2:45PM in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with burial to follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Paul Gardner. Friends and members of BVEN Lodge 560 will serve as pall bearers. Obituary: Joe H. Jolley Sr.

JOLLEY, SR., Joe H. Age 82 of Goodlettsville. January 30, 2010. Joe is survived by many family members and friends. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After service he worked at the Tennessean where he retired. He was the proud owner of the Country and Western Bar & Grill in Goodlettsville. A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Forest Lawn Chapel. Active Pallbearers are Janine Jolley, Bonnie Simmons, Cheryl Newman, Talisa Fuller, Cindy Carter & Joyce Martin. Visitation will be Monday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. & 4 – 8 p.m. and Tuesday 1 hour prior to the service. FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME

Cumberland High School has  two former students inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.  The first was G P West that graduated from Cumberland in the late 1953.  GP is one of the pioneers of high school wresting in Nashville and the state of Tennessee.  The second is Doug Newman that graduated in 1964.  Doug was in the Air Force between 1966 and 1970.  He graduated from Austin Peay in 1972.  Taught and coached a half year at Cheatham Co. High School in the fall 1972.  In January of 1973 he joined Coach Smallen as a teacher and coach at Goodlettsville High School.  When Goodlettsville became a Middle School Doug was named the Hunters La ne High Schools first Head wrestling coach in 1986.  He taught and coach at Hunters Lane until 1996.  In the fall of 1996 he was named the Head wrestling coach at Hillwood high school.

Doug’s induction celebration will be on October 24 at the Marriott Nashville Airport.  He will a member of the 2009 Hall of Fame Class.  This is great honor for Doug and for Cumberland High School.
